Job Title : Day Lead

Position Type : Full-Time; Hourly, Non-exempt, starting $17.00/hour
Shift : Monday through Friday; 6:00AM - 2:30PM
Reports To : Regional Manager
The Day Lead Custodian is responsible for overseeing daily custodial operations during school hours, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and functionality across the facility. Your leadership and attention to detail will ensure the school is prepared for daily activities and special events. The Day Lead performs hands-on cleaning and maintenance, coordinates day support for the building, and collaborates closely with evening staff and the Facility Manager. This position will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the school building, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and other common areas.
Key Responsibilities: - From 6-8am, the Day Lead will unlock facility and disable alarm system, retrieve and utilize walkie-talkie for communication, and conduct facility walkthrough to identify: burned-out lamps, missed cleaning tasks, urgent maintenance needs (report to Facility Manager)
- Clean and reset breakfast and cafeteria areas which includes wiping tables and chairs, pushing in chairs, sweeping/mopping floors, removing trash, spot cleaning hallways, sweeping and cleaning front steps
- From 9am-12pm, the Day Lead will conduct a walkthrough to collect hallway trash, touch up restrooms, refill restroom supplies and spot mop as needed
- Respond to service needs including: sick student cleanup, minor handyman tasks, and deliveries of copy paper and maintenance items
- For the lunch period from 12-2pm, Day Lead will be present for all lunches to help clean spills promptly, collect and remove trash, wipe tables between groups
- Complete after lunch service which includes sanitizing all furniture, sweeping and mopping entire cafeteria, mopping under kitchen equipment, and taking out trash and recycling
- During the last hour, complete a final walkthrough to pick up trash, touch up restrooms, complete work orders, communicate with Night Lead on outstanding issues or updates
- Notify Facility Manager of unresolved maintenance concerns
- Weekly tasks include: Empty exterior trash cans 3x/week or as needed, pick up litter in parking lot, roadway, and green areas (weekly),
- Weekly replace broken or depleted facility components like door stoppers/handles, stained ceiling tiles, lamps, dispensers, clock batteries
- Report issues requiring contractor intervention
General Cleaning Tasks include:
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and common areas
- Dust and wipe down furniture, windowsills, light fixtures, and other surfaces
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and replenishing supplies (toilet paper, soap, etc.)
- Empty trash cans around the school and dispose of waste in a safe and proper manner
- Clean and disinfect high-touch areas such as door handles, light switches, and handrails
- Maintain cleanliness of entrance and exit areas, including sweeping walkways and removing debris
- Ensure cleaning supplies and chemicals are used in accordance with safety guidelines and company policies
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment
- Ensure the school is kept safe from hazards such as slippery floors or blocked exit routes
- Monitor and report supply levels to ensure adequate stock of cleaning products, paper goods, and equipment
- Restock supplies in restrooms, classrooms, and common areas
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of custodial storage areas
- Any other task requested by your supervisor or management
Special Cleaning Tasks :
- Deep clean carpets and upholstery as needed or as per the school’s cleaning schedule
- Assist with periodic floor waxing and buffing
- Perform seasonal cleaning tasks, including removing snow or debris around entrances or playgrounds (if applicable)
- Assist with event setups, cleanups, and post-event sanitization as requested
Qualifications: - Experience :
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
- Skills :
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Ability to work efficiently and prioritize tasks
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
- Physical Requirements :
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including indoors and outdoors (weather permitting)
- Capable of using cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and floor scrubbers
- Other Requirements :
- Reliable transportation to and from the job site
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (if required by the client)
- Must be punctual, dependable, and maintain a positive attitude.
Working Conditions: - Schedule : This position requires flexibility to align with the school’s operating hours. Exact work hours may vary based on the school’s schedule and specific needs.
- Environment : The role involves cleaning various areas within the school building, including classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas. Some outdoor work may be required.
- Uniform : Company shirts and any required PPE (personal protective equipment) will be provided. Additional Marquis shirts/sweatshirts will be available for purchase at an additional cost. No sweatpants, workout/yoga pants, or graphic shirts except those with Christel House or contractor logos.
- Training : On-the-job training will be provided to ensure proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
