Job Description The Boston Community Health Collaborative (BCHC) aims to develop and implement an impactful and sustainable 3-year Community Health Improvement Plan that achieves positive health changes for all residents in the city of Boston. Boston Public Health Commission is the central coordinating entity for the Boston Community Health Collaborative. Given the mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to work in partnership with communities to protect and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those impacted by racism and systemic inequities, BPHC sets an expectation that all staff commit, individually and as part of the BPHC team, to hold ourselves accountable to establishing a culture of antiracism and advance racial equity and justice through each of our bureaus, programs, and offices. Our department seeks an intern to provide communications and marketing support to the Boston Community Health Collaborative. Primary tasks will include: · Developing social media graphics and copy that promote public health goals and encourage engagement in community health initiatives,

  • Supporting the development of as-needed newsletter and communications to the partnership network,
  • Developing communications strategies to share community health data and recruit new partners to support the
Community Health Improvement Plan and share the broader mission of the Boston Community Health Collaborative. · Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and collaboration The intern will work with the Project Coordinator and Project Director to identify updates to share through the BCHC website as well. Through their contributions, the intern will support the overarching goal of strengthening communications with partners across the local public health system and play a crucial role in raising awareness about promising strategies and practices within our partner network. Commitment and Compensation: 10-12 hours per week (flexible with class schedule). Rate is determined by level of education ($18.00/hour for undergraduate students and $20/hour for graduate students) Location: 1010 Massachusetts Ave, Boston, MA 02119. Please note that this is a hybrid position, with some in-person components. Minimum Qualifications - Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills - Attention to detail - A self-starter with the ability to work independently and openness to receiving mentorship and feedback. - Good time management and ability to communicate in a professional manner - Willingness to learn new skills work as part of a team - Demonstrated commitment to addressing institutional and structural racism Preferred skills: - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Teams, MS Outlook, Adobe - Proficiency with graphic design tools such as Canva highly desired. - Experience working with diverse communities, especially in the city of Boston. Bilingual students strongly encouraged to apply. - Experience developing health education, public health, or related materials for a lay audience This internship is especially well-suited for students in the following areas of study: Communications and Journalism, Media and Marketing, Public Health (General, Health Promotion), Sociomedical Sciences, Social Work. Interested applicants will be asked to submit 2 letters of recommendation (1 from a current or former supervisor if applicable and/or 1 or both letters from faculty members). Additionally, applicants will be asked to submit a writing sample or a creative/writing portfolio if available. Learning Objectives: · Learn about how to apply inclusive communications approaches to community health assessment and improvement planning and coalition-building.
  • Gain experience in writing public health communication materials in plain language.
  • Learn new skills in graphic design and data visualization to develop public health communications materials.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of community health assessment and improvement planning processes
