S-E-A is adding a Safety Expert to our Chicagoland office! This is a unique opportunity for a safety professional to work in a litigation based industry. This role is well suited to a curious, life-long learner who enjoys reading and analysis. Due to the litigation component of our work, the ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently and comfort in a high-stakes environment.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities: - Evaluate standard of care of construction safety professionals and assess responsibility for incidents/injuries which have occurred
- Evaluate multi-employer work sites and duties and responsibilities for safety assigned to each entity
- Review contract documents for evaluation of work site safety programs and assess the program quality
- Evaluate product safety, machine guarding; cranes, rigging & millwright, man lifts, ergonomics and fleet
- Analyze and evaluate construction safety and other issues arising during construction projects
- Conduct site evaluations of industrial and commercial facilities for workplace hazards in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), state, and local regulations
- Extensive research/reading and analysis
- Utilize industry experience and certifications to present construction safety training to insurance carriers, construction companies, contractors, law firms and municipalities
- Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients and relay analysis in layman's terms
- Prepare and submit written reports that document failure(s), extent of loss, cause(s) and recommended remediation.
- Explain to clients, in laymen's terms, your investigation, analysis and what you determined to be the cause of the failure.
- Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups
- Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending company-paid educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
- Responsible for retention and development of client relations
Position Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or similar
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- CHST, and/or OHST a plus
- Current OSHA 500
- Experienced in the recognition, evaluation, correction and control of workplace hazards
- Trenching/Excavation/Scaffolding experience preferred
- Construction management experience with overall responsibility for worksite safety
- Public speaking experience a plus
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Physical Requirements: - Ability to travel 20% of the time
- Ability to maneuver in and around an incident site
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to drive to site locations
- Ability to travel by airline
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
