Position Description
This entry level role reports to the Editorial Director of the Children's Trade group and provides support for editorial and administrative department needs. In addition to possessing strong reading and writing skills, this individual must be detail oriented, organized, efficient, a skilled communicator with various people and departments, and comfortable/ a quick learner with systems and various database programs. This individual must also have specific interest in children's and young adult fiction and nonfiction publishing and developing knowledge of the current market.
Responsibilities
Administrative
Organize and schedule department meetings, maintain title lists, publication grids, and department schedules
Create Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and Powerpoint presentations
Add/update title information and reviews in Bloomsbury's data system, prepare specs and keywords for feeds
Commission and track payments, book orders
Prepare and enter expense reports and Focal Point invoices
Look up/update sales figures (Cognos, Decision Key, Royalty Share) in tip sheets
Manage CIP/Copyright applications
Editorial
Read, evaluate, and respond to submissions alongside Editorial Director
Research and analyze trends and competition, prepare acquisition proposals
Offer editorial feedback on books under contract, and to colleagues in weekly meetings
Create title information sheets and draft other seasonal and book jacket copy
Review reprints and make necessary updates
Communicate with authors and agents
Create design memos and work with Design team on covers
Requirements
Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to organize, multi-task, manage time, and work to deadlines, balancing multiple projects with flexibility
Strong attention to accuracy of work though attention to detail
Critical and creative thinking skills; Strong reading skills with US Children's and Young Adult book market awareness
Demonstrated interest in working on children's and young adult fiction and nonfiction
Strong understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Location
All candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area and be able to commute to our NY headquarters on a hybrid-remote schedule.
