Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
Master of Legal Studies.
Doctor of Jurisprudence from an accredited law school preferred.
Ability to obtain Navajo Nation Bar License within one year.
1 year of experience in the practice of law for private, public or government.
Utility law experience preferred.
Navajo law experience preferred.
Valid Driver's License (subject to motor vehicle record review).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
Performs legal research on Navajo Nation Code, multiple State, Federal statutes, regulations, case law, and policies to investigate facts and laws of cases, determine causes of action, and prepare cases.
Reviews contracts for goods and services for compliance with procurement laws and internal policies and supports the entire NTUA Legal Department by handling correspondence and preparing various legal documents and summaries.
Researches and analyzes legal documents to provide research support for NTUA Legal Department.
Evaluates information to determine compliance with standards, using relevant information and individual judgment to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, or standards.
Provides legal and administrative support to the entire NTUA Legal Department by receiving, screening, evaluating, and determining appropriate responses to written correspondence, and by preparing memoranda, correspondence, case law briefs, and legislative summaries.
Develops, manages, and handles an efficient system for filing and retrieving highly confidential files and records by ensuring its confidentiality and security.
Drafts and maintains affidavits, document files, and case correspondence while assisting in the drafting of ordinances and policies that support NTUA and the Navajo Nation's self-governance objectives.
Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
Attends Navajo Nation Council meetings and other meetings concerning tribal regulatory matters.
Completes all assigned tasks promptly, adhering to project timelines and regulatory deadlines. Improves turnaround times for contract reviews and regulatory filings by implementing efficient processes.
Maintains high standards in drafting and reviewing legal documents, minimizing errors and omissions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
