Job Description

About CRG Automation

CRG Automation designs, builds, and integrates advanced automation systems for manufacturing and industrial clients nationwide. Our team delivers high-performance solutions in robotics, controls, packaging, and custom machinery. We are looking for an experienced Industrial Electrician who brings strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and pride in craftsmanship to our growing team.

Position Summary

The Lead Controls Electrician owns the electrical build of custom automation—from panel fabrication through machine wiring and power-up—while setting the standard for neat, workmanlike craftsmanship. This hands-on leader mentors controls technicians, serves as the electrical liaison between the shop floor and controls engineers, and drives continuous improvement of build and checkout processes. Work is performed to UL508A and NFPA 79 standards and centers on control panels, distributed I/O (IO-Link masters/hubs), and machine power wiring (typical 480V 3‑phase motors, VFDs, and servo drives).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, build, and wire industrial control panels and enclosures from electrical schematics, layout drawings, and BOMs; set and enforce workmanship standards (routing, termination, labeling, torque, dress).
  • Wire machines designed for a hybrid architecture using modular field cabling (M12) for IO‑Link masters/hubs, sensors, and safety devices. Along with flexible motor cable for motors, VFDs, and servo systems.
  • Serve as the electrical liaison between the shop floor and controls engineers; redline drawings, provide feedback, and close the loop on design changes.
  • Mentor and coach controls technicians; develop work instructions, checklists, and training to raise team capability and consistency.
  • Lead system power-up, I/O checkout, and support commissioning/FAT; collaborate closely with controls engineering during debug.
  • Troubleshoot power and control circuits to the component level using meters and disciplined root‑cause methods.
  • Ensure all work conforms to relevant standards; own electrical safety and quality in the build area.
  • Drive continuous improvement of panel/machine build processes to increase throughput, repeatability, and quality (tooling, kitting, labeling, standards).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, machinery build, or systems integration with a focus on panel build and machine wiring.
  • Expert knowledge of NEC, UL508A, and NFPA 79 and how they apply to industrial machinery; able to interpret and enforce these standards on the floor.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring of technicians or electricians; sets the bar for neat, workmanlike builds.
  • Proficient reading/marking electrical schematics and panel layouts; Comfortable with PLC I/O lists and network topologies.
  • Strong experience with machine power circuits (typical 480V 3‑phase), motors, VFDs/servos, and functional safety devices (E‑stops, safety relays/PLCs, interlocks).
  • Familiar with distributed I/O architectures including IO‑Link masters/hubs and field‑rated connectors (M12); common 24 VDC control circuits.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills on power and controls circuits; disciplined root‑cause analysis and clear documentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, lockout/tagout, and safe work practices; high attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.

Licensing and Training

  • Journeyman or Master Electrician License (preferred or equivalent experience).
  • Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or relevant technical training.
  • Experience in a UL508A panel shop and/or formal UL508A training preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification a plus.
  • Additional certifications in industrial controls, automation, or PLCs are advantageous.

Why Join CRG Automation

  • Work with cutting-edge automation technology and complex custom machinery.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented environment with strong growth opportunities.
  • Competitive pay, benefits, and profit-sharing opportunities.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
