Position Summary This position reports to the Director of Manufacturing and works with the management teams and staff at their site to achieve continuous improvement. The SBS Lean Champion will apply Lean tools and techniques to identify and eliminate waste and to improve customer and employee satisfaction.
Essential Functions - Apply the Steel Business System and tools to achieve goals in the Strategic Deployment and KPI improvement process.
- Work as the Director of Manufacturing's improvement consultant by recommending and running kaizen events targeted at the specific business goals.
- Collaborate with Directors of Manufacturing and Production Managers to reduce waste within the Value Streams at local site and may be asked to travel to facilitate events at other sites.
- Provide training in Lean tools and techniques to employees at each location.
- Update metrics, scorecards and other indicators to assess the effectiveness of Lean activities.
- Exhibit proficiency in a wide range of process improvement tools for the identification and elimination of waste, and apply these as required. These will include:
- Value Stream Mapping Process Mapping
- 3P - 5P, /Problem Solving, Variation Reduction
- Material Flow (Pull System, Kanban, lot-forming)
- Set-up Time Reduction/SMED
- Standard Work Instructions
- Total Productive Maintenance
- GEMBA Boards, metrics, Visual Management Boards (shop and transactional areas)
- 5S+Safety, Visual Management
- Daily Management/Leader Standard Work
- Demonstrate positive impact on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity and Cost as a result of Lean activities.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to work with all levels of the organization from executives to shop floor employees.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related field.
- 3-5 years' experience in a production environment, in applying Lean principles and tools, with direct experience in application of the Toyota Production System or Danaher Business System a plus.
- Demonstrated history of financial improvements achieved through improvement activities
- Demonstrated initiative, ability to be self-motivated, work independently and desire to drive change and is motivated to exceed expectations.
- Possesses statistical knowledge and the ability to apply analysis techniques to product and process improvement projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in basic manufacturing principles, with metalworking, stamping, casting and extruding experience a plus.
- Lean, Lean Sigma, or Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) certification a plus.
- Strong presentation skills
