Position Summary The Locksmith is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and adjustment of locks, keys, and related door hardware across the Saint Mary’s College campus. This role ensures the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and property through expert knowledge of locking systems, key control, and security protocols. Key Responsibilities Install, repair, and maintain a variety of mechanical and electronic locks, door closures, panic hardware, and access control systems. Cut and issue keys according to campus keying hierarchy and college policies. Maintain master key systems and keep accurate, up-to-date records of key distribution and access. Respond to service requests and emergency lockouts in a timely and professional manner. Re-key locks and cylinders to support renovations, departmental moves, and security upgrades. Inspect campus buildings and facilities to identify potential security risks related to door hardware and locking mechanisms. Collaborate with campus safety/security personnel on access control and security measures. Maintain an inventory of locksmith tools, parts, and materials. Follow applicable codes, safety regulations, and college policies related to physical security and privacy. Assist with general maintenance duties when necessary or during emergencies. Working Conditions Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in inclement weather. May require lifting, bending, and working in tight or elevated spaces. Requirements Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; completion of locksmith training program or apprenticeship preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a locksmith, preferably in an institutional or commercial setting. Thorough knowledge of lock and key systems, including master keying, key cutting, and electronic access systems. Familiarity with ADA, fire, life safety, and building code requirements for doors and hardware. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals. Strong attention to detail, record-keeping skills, and a high degree of integrity. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
