  • Maintain and update surgery schedules using electronic health record (EHR) systems and scheduling software to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Verify patient insurance information and obtain necessary authorizations prior to surgery to prevent delays or cancellations.
  • Provide patients with pre-operative instructions and answer any questions related to surgery scheduling and preparation.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to resolve scheduling conflicts and accommodate urgent or emergency cases as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Prepare and distribute daily surgery schedules and reports to relevant medical and administrative personnel.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Surgery Scheduler to efficiently manage complex calendars and communicate clearly with patients and medical staff, ensuring all parties are well-informed and prepared. Proficiency with EHR systems and scheduling software is essential for maintaining accurate and up-to-date surgery schedules, which directly impacts patient care and operational flow. Strong organizational skills help prioritize tasks and resolve scheduling conflicts promptly, while excellent communication skills facilitate clear instructions and empathetic patient interactions.
