Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Recreation Center Division of the Parks and Recreation Department in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.

Recruitment Qualifications
Required:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Sufficient education to perform essential duties and understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • One (1) year of cashiering experience;
  • Experience in a high-volume customer service-related position;
  • Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Desired:
  • Clerical and/or data entry experience.

Essential Duties


  • Performs all duties at the direction of the Recreation Facility Manager or its designee;
  • Enthusiastically greets the public from the Control Center (front office area) of the Alamogordo Recreation Center and provides superior customer service;
  • Assists the public, including adults and children, in person and by phone by giving information on recreation programs, services, and facility use options;
  • Checks in customers and processes program registrations, new and renewal memberships, passes, permits, and rentals;
  • Receives cash and other forms of payment, makes accurate change, processes refunds and credits, and creates receipts;
  • Completes cash reports and balances a cash drawer at the conclusion of each shift worked;
  • Uses computers and other general office equipment in the performance of duties;
  • Performs clerical duties, including but not limited to operating a multi-line telephone; completing various forms, documents, and memos, and filing;
  • Monitors/logs the use of gym equipment by patrons;
  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility, including the lobby areas, gymnasium, hallways, and restrooms;
  • Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills;
  • Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards; and
  • Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.
OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES
  • Must be able to work odd and irregular hours including shift work, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • May assist with special events and/or with youth programs when needed;
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information obtained during the performance of duties; and
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

  • Perform multiple tasks concurrently and operate standard office equipment;
  • Learn data inquiry and recreation software utilized by the Alamogordo Recreation Center;
  • Learn the facility schedule, fees, and rules governing admittance;
  • Accept money, make change accurately, and reconcile a cash drawer;
  • Meet and deal firmly and pleasantly with the public, and react quickly and calmly in emergency situations;
  • Work well with others and participate fully in a team-oriented environment;
  • Interface with other employees and customers in a courteous and respectful manner;
  • Project positive support of the department and all City organizations always; and
  • Maintain and enhance the Recreation Center's commitment to customer service excellence.

Work Environment


  • Most work will be performed indoors with heavy customer contact;
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud;
  • Must be able to see well enough to read computer monitors and documents; hear well enough to receive information in person and over the telephone; speak well enough to be understood when transmitting information in person and over the telephone; hand and finger dexterity sufficient to grasp documents and operate office and other required equipment;
  • Lift and/or move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; the lifting of any object greater than fifty (50) pounds by a single individual is prohibited. Lifting objects, materials, or equipment weighing more than fifty (50) pounds requires the buddy system or the use of devices designed to assist with lifting or moving. Proper lifting techniques shall be used when lifting items of any weight;
  • Risk of physical injury and exposure to varying outdoor conditions while participating in youth activities, if applicable;
  • Required to wear activity-appropriate attire and close-toed footwear while participating in youth activities, if applicable; and
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, contaminants, and pathogens.
