Basic Function

Provides oversight and guidance to the Upstream group with input from the Director of Houston Research Center. Must ensure the working environment is conducive to high productivity and overall, wellbeing of the group. Candidate must work in an environment of inclusiveness and support for the staff professional needs to be successful to their full potential. Candidate must be prepared to support when projects or request are in alignment with corporate values and needs. However, he/she must also be prepared to not support initiatives if they are not aligned with corporate values and needs. This person must have a broad perspective of the industry and align those perspectives to Aramco technical and operational objectives.

Provides expert technical advice and guidance in a key specialized area of petroleum engineering. Has outstanding technical capability in specialty which has normally received broad industry recognition and commands the confidence of company management and associates in ability to analyze situations and recommend practical solutions in area of expertise.

This position provides opportunity for individuals of broad experience and demonstrated ability and good judgment as well as individuals who are expert in a particular specialized area of petroleum engineering. The increasing size and complexity of Aramco's producing operations and the related petroleum engineering support requires ASC and Saudi Aramco to have in-house expertise in various specialized areas. This position requires the ability of working with management and associates to convert technical expertise into practical recommendations regarding budget items, operating procedures, etc

Apart from the broader areas of Reservoir, Production, Well Engineering and Workover Engineering, specialized areas in which individuals have been previously placed in Advisor and Senior Advisor positions include Reservoir Simulation, Well Data Base Management, Long-Range Planning, Oil Well Corrosion, Artificial Lift, and Well Stimulation. Other applications may include such areas as Sand Control, Well Completion and Well testing Equipment. In addition, handles projects on behalf of Saudi Aramco and ASC under circumstances where ASC and Saudi Aramco would otherwise be dependent upon use of outside consultants. 

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides expert advice and assistance on operating problems relating to the area of expertise.
• Specifies design criteria and relevant operating parameters for development of Bl's and/or new projects within the area of expertise.
• Participates in project technical reviews and reviews proposals for new or changed operating procedures in upstream area of expertise to ensure efficient and economic operations.
• Conducts economic studies on cost analysis as appropriate to resolve alternative causes of action relative to the area of expertise.
• Originates ideas for improvements, develops a basis for required field testing and Management review, analyses result and recommends new or changed procedures and/or facilities.
• Recommends, designs and oversees suitable outside investigations to resolve problems which exceed current engineering knowledge.
• Represents Aramco in dealings with manufacturers, vendors, outside consultants, etc. within area of expertise.
• Conducts seminars, prepares manuals, and trains and develops Aramco engineers and operating personnel in area of expertise.
• Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  
   

Education and Experience

• BS in engineering field is required. MS or PhD is desirable, but not required; intensive industry training including appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected.
• Typically, has at least twenty (20) years of related experience, including ten (10) years of intensive experience in oil & gas specialty.
• Must be able to communicate and comprehend both orally and in writing, accurately, clearly, and concisely in English at the high level required to perform the job as outlined.
• Must be clearly recognized by both supervisors and colleagues as thoroughly qualified and highly competent in area of expertise. Must have demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly to work effectively with others, and to utilize technical knowledge to achieve practical results. ASC and Saudi Aramco Management must have confidence in judgment and recommendations. He/she must be able to represent ASC and Saudi Aramco effectively in such contacts and command technical respect. Further, to wide recognition as an outstanding expert, must have repeatedly demonstrated ability to employ expertise effectively to achieve practical Aramco objectives.
