Our mission is to prepare each student for college with an enhanced knowledge of the Ojibwe language, culture, leadership, and environmental stewardship.

The ultimate goal of the educational program at Endazhi-Nitaawiging is to create a school where our students can see themselves in all that they are learning. POSITION SUMMARY

At Endazhi-Nitaawiging, we understand ourselves to be obligated to support the unique genius of every individual student who enrolls in our school. Endazhi-Nitaawiging will challenge every educator at the school to develop a thoroughly indigenized pedagogy, a way of teaching that reflects Ojibwe ways of knowing and that employs the Ojibwe language as the medium of instruction whenever possible. Substitute Teacher will provide emergency support for classrooms, fill short-term or long-term absences, or help cover a class during a transition period. They accept assignments on a flexible schedule and may be called to fill-in the morning of the school day. Reports to Head of School.

DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES


  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students

  • Support each childs social, emotional and intellectual growth and development

  • Ensure the wellbeing and safety of children at all times

  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment

  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student

  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in any other learning spaces

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Endazhi-Nitaawiging policies and practices

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND STRENGTHS


  • Bachelors degree or higher, preferably in education

  • Demonstrated commitment to Ojibwe language revitalization and academic excellence for all students

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages

  • General knowledge of several subjects

  • Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms

  • Flexibility and critical-thinking skills

  • Patience and friendly and nurturing disposition

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and State, Federal or International Background checks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND STRENGTHS


  • A valid and current Substitute Teacher license

  • Knowledge of land-based learning and experiential learning

  • Mediation and restorative justice

  • Experience teaching Social Emotional Learning

COMPENSATION

Based on MN Substitute Teacher daily base rate and qualifications.
