Staff Accountant Our clientis a professional accounting firm seeking a detail-oriented
Junior Staff Accountant to join our team in Howard County. This entry-level position is ideal for a motivated individual looking to build a career in public accounting through hands-on experience in tax preparation and financial reporting. Working directly under senior supervision, you will support our firm's commitment to accuracy and efficiency while managing a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients.
Shift/Hours: Monday - Friday, First Shift, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $25hr - $28/hr
Location: Columbia, MD
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Tax Preparation: Prepare comprehensive federal and state tax returns for individuals, C-Corps, S-Corps, partnerships, and trusts.
- Financial Reporting: Compile financial statements and Excel-based trial balances using client-provided documentation, such as bank statements and check stubs.
- Administrative Filings: Generate and file tax extensions, payment vouchers, and e-file confirmations while monitoring AdobeSign authorizations for client approval.
- Document Management: Organize and maintain digital work papers and internal record retention systems to ensure all client data is secure and accessible.
- Workflow Coordination: Proactively identify missing client information and provide regular status updates to supervisors to ensure all filing deadlines are met.
- Practice Management: Utilize Xero Practice Manager for daily time tracking and internal reporting to support firm-wide project management.
Qualifications: - Education: Associate degree required (Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred); a solid understanding of IRS/State tax codes and GAAP is essential.
- Software Proficiency: Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel and professional accounting software (experience with UltraTax, AccountingCS, or Xero is a plus).
- Schedule Commitment: Ability to work full-time in-office (no remote work) and commit to required overtime during the tax busy season (February 1 - May 15).
- Professional Accuracy: High attention to detail with the ability to self-review work for accuracy, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively within a team.
