The Epilepsy Foundation of America is seeking an experienced Web Editor to support the web and digital presence of the foundation, as directed by the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, to help further its mission to improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy through education, advocacy, research, and connection.

Summary of Duties

This hands-on position leads content strategy and maintains the website content management and publishing efforts for the Epilepsy Foundation’s website and affiliated digital channels, ensuring that they are optimized, accurate, organized for growth, and represent the foundation’s mission and vision.

The position focuses on providing and producing web content and supporting multimedia (text, graphics, and video preferred) that will encourage both new and returning users to regularly access web channels and utilize them as a source of information by providing expert knowledge of web traffic trends, web accessibility, and search engine optimization (SEO) to enhance and extend messaging and design consistency across Epilepsy Foundation’s digital platforms.

In addition, the position will utilize web content management systems (CMS), project management systems, and software to produce and design web pages, as well as support additional digital publications, content feeds, and social media communications for quality, consistency, and engagement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads content strategy for epilepsy.com and associated websites.
  • Writes and reviews updated content consisting of web pages, articles, posts, events, and blogs for publication.
  • Serves as liaison between content owners and other staff members to ensure adherence to editorial standards, accessibility, technical standards, and Plain Language guidelines.
  • Serves as staff lead for the Medical Editorial Board of epilepsy.com.
  • Compiles and reviews web traffic and engagement reports, summaries, and analytics.
  • Develops recommendations for website improvements to help enhance the Epilepsy Foundation’s marketing and communications goals.
  • Participates in special marketing and communication campaigns for the Epilepsy Foundation by developing strategies to effectively deliver information to the website user.
  • Supervises marketing staff related to website copy editing and SEO/SEM optimization.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team to create content for the website and other digital channels.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience creating and editing written web content, communications strategies, or other directly related work experiences.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Programming, Web Design, Web Development, Marketing, Communications, Writing, related field, or equivalent work experience.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of web accessibility guidelines, content creation, and remediation.
  • Best practices for creating content for the internet.
  • Spotting and correcting grammar, spelling, and syntax errors in texts, and following established editorial style guides. Some experience with the editorial requirements of writing content in the AP Style preferred.
  • Communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including attention to deadlines and priorities.
  • Being capable of managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Being proficient in word-processing programs and editing tools such as the applications in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiar with webmaster tools such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and UTM tracking.
  • Proficient in creating content for Content management and web systems such as SharePoint, SmartSheets, and Drupal.
  • Formatting and resizing photographs or creating graphics for use on the internet.
  • Familiar with online graphics suites such as Canva and online database platforms such as Salesforce and online email distribution platforms.
  • Familiarity with, including best practices and analytics, social media platforms such as Meta (formerly Facebook), X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Works effectively with a diverse workforce while serving a diverse community to establish and maintain good working relationships.

Travel, Work Environment, and Physical Demands

  • This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week, with some flexibility.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and will require staring at a computer screen and/or documents for extended periods of time.
  • Travel may be expected no more than 15% of the time.
  • This position is expected to regularly attend Foundation meetings and trainings.
